What is the difference between a synth and a pad?
The pads can be created with synths, but of course, all synth sounds are not pads. The pads have generally have long amplitude envelope attacks and liberation times, which means that they fade gently, and often the pads will include a kind of modulation treatment or filter modulation that keeps their its gradually in motion and evolution. Now let’s create our own sound on PAD to solidify our understanding of what pads are and what makes a good sound on PAD.
How to make pads in music
1. Create an envelope of smooth amplitude
Let’s start by adding massive X on a midi track in our project. Let’s see the envelope of amplitude of the initial patch in the lower left corner of the interface. Here we can see that the A (attack) and R (Liberation) pimples are very low, giving us fast attack and liberation times and a catchy sound.
