5 tips to organize your sound library

5. Save your sounds

Many producers have stories where they have lost dozens if not hundreds of hours or work due to a failure of the hard drive. If your sounds are stored in a single place, just an accident, a failure of the equipment to destroy the entire library.

Working without backup is an unnecessary risk, and if you appreciate the time you spent developing your sound library and your project archives, it is logical to take precautions in this area.

The external hard drives are relatively cheap – because you do not work from these backups, you can use a cheap hard drive rather than a quick SSD – so your first line of defense should be to save your sounds on minus two external discs in addition to the conduct of your work. This will guarantee that even if there is one problem with one of the backups, you will have at least another backup to restore your data. Dedicated backup software such as Carbon Copy Cloner for MacOS are available to facilitate the creation of backups.

Ideally, you would like an “out -of -site” backup, in case, let’s say, your studio is struck by a meteorite while you have coffee. If it is not practical for you or if you would just like a more practical solution, remember to make a backup of your sound library in an online storage space, for example a Google Drive or Dropbox.

It is also possible to save your entire computer with automated online backup services like Backblaze, and this alongside regular local backups will give you the peace of mind that your sound library is not at risk.
