10 emblematic songs that use Wurlitzer electric piano sound

What is a Wurlitzer electric piano?

The Wurlitzer electric piano is an electro-mechanical keyboard instrument produced from 1954 to 1983. Wurlitzers (or “wurlis”) produce sound using flat steel reeds struck by felt hammers, and these reeds are hosted in a comb metal plate, forming an electrostatic collection system. This design creates a signature tone which is soft when it is played gently, but gaining a rough and resonant character with increased key pressure.

What does a Wurlitzer piano look like?

The Wurlitzers no doubt seem more harmonically abundant than the bell -shaped rhodes, with a richer and more jang tone. The soft game gives a sweetness in the shape of a vibraphone, but harder touches produce a grainy and growled sound.
